A Chanel Flap Bag in supple calfskin leather with brown leather trim. The Flap Bag has a storied history: it was first debuted by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in the '50s and then later re-envisioned by Karl Lagerfeld in the '80s. In 2005, Lagerfeld rereleased Coco's original 2.55 design as the Reissue (2.55 refers to the month and year—February 1955—of Coco's original design).
The Flap Bag comes in many different styles. The most common materials are calfskin, lambskin, and caviar, though it is available in more exotic leathers such as lizard and ostrich. The most common sizes are Mini, Small, Medium, Large/Jumbo, and Maxi. Lagerfeld's design—to which this particular bag belongs—features a leather or leather-woven chain strap and the always-popular Double-C turnlock closure, while Coco's design has a chain (sans leather) strap and the iconic Mademoiselle lock.
