Louis Vuitton Date Codes & Authentication Guide
What is the Louis Vuitton Date Code?
Date codes consist of numbers and later on, numbers and letters that identify the date and location the bag was made. The letters tell you the country in which the item was manufactured while the numbers indicate the month and year of the production date.
Where can I find Louis Vuitton Date Codes?
If you are looking at a Louis Vuitton manufactured before the ’80s, don’t be worried if you can’t find a date code anywhere because LV hadn’t started using them before that period.
But if you are interested in bags manufactured from the early 1980s and onwards, you can typically find date codes within the interior of an LV product. Here are the places you should look for:
Directly embossed into the fabric
Embossed or printed on a rectangular leather tab sewn into an interior seam
Directly on or somewhere near the handles or zipper.
Inside a pocket, either located inside the bag or at the exterior of the bag with a tag sewn into a seam
Near the top edge of the bag or near the seam of an interior pocket for embossed date codes
On a riveted leather tab underneath the loose interior pocket

Most recently, at the beginning of 2021, the date codes in bags have been removed and replaced with discreetly embedded microchips in LV products. Louis Vuitton announced that they will be switching from using heat-stamped date codes to integrated microchips and RFID chips in all of their products. These items will not have date codes but will continue to say where the item was made unless it is made in the USA.
